Netflix has just dropped the official trailer for the much-anticipated sequel to the beloved 2000 stop-motion animated comedy, “Chicken Run.” The upcoming film, aptly titled “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” is scheduled to premiere this December.
In this exciting sequel, a fresh ensemble of voice actors brings to life the tale of “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.” The story follows Ginger, voiced by Thandiwe Newton, as she strives to create a tranquil sanctuary far away from the human world. Having successfully escaped the clutches of the malevolent Tweedy farm, Ginger and Rocky, portrayed by Zachary Levi, appear to be living their long-awaited “happily ever after.” However, unbeknownst to them, the peaceful existence they’ve cultivated faces a new and formidable threat.
Thandiwe Newton steps into the role of Ginger, taking over from Julia Sawalha, known for her work in “Absolutely Fabulous.” Zachary Levi assumes the character of Rocky, previously voiced by Mel Gibson in the original film. One returning voice actor is Miranda Richardson, renowned for her role in “Good Omens,” who reprises her role as the formidable Mrs. Tweedy. Joining the cast is comedian Peter Serafinowicz, making his “Chicken Run” debut as the hapless businessman Reginald Smith.
The newly released trailer provides fans with a sneak peek into the challenges that Ginger and Rocky will confront as they embark on a mission to thwart Mrs. Tweedy’s sinister operation.
Director Sam Fell praised Mrs. Tweedy, the nemesis of Ginger in the film, by stating, “A movie’s quality often relies on its villain, and Mrs. Tweedy is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats. With her ‘Dawn of the Nugget’ plan, she seeks industrial-scale revenge against all chicken-kind.” Miranda’s exceptional talent in both drama and comedy guarantees a mix of laughter and fear in the same moment. Additionally, Peter Serafinowicz joins the amazing cast as Reginald Smith, a slightly perplexed businessman visiting Mrs. Tweedy’s enormous nugget factory.
The original “Chicken Run” was conceived by Nick Park, the creator of “Wallace and Gromit,” and Peter Lord, co-founder of Aardman Animations. Aardman Animations’ inaugural feature, “Chicken Run,” shattered records by grossing over $225 million at the global box office, solidifying its status as the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film ever.
“Chicken Run 2,” set to premiere on December 15, continues the saga more than two decades after the original story. Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell, and Rachel Tunnard are credited with writing the screenplay. Producing the film are Steve Pegram and Leyla Hobart, with executive producers Peter Lord, Nick Park, Karey Kirkpatrick, and Carla Shelley.
